It catches the fleeting moment of a child’s first steps, braving the dune ground on the beaches of the Cantabrian coast, while he plays with a small yellow bucket. The landscape shows the contrast of the cliffs that outline the green, winding shoreline against a sky of dense clouds burnished by the light of the sun and the damp of the air. The painting is made with agile brushstrokes, without insisting on what is represented, capturing the fleetingness of the moment, the movement of the clouds, the lights and shadows over the steps of the little Eros at his play.
