From the classroom to the studio

For twenty years I taught in classrooms, and through all those years I painted: summers by the Cantabrian Sea, watercolor notebooks, an easel in the living room. This studio is the decision to give painting the place it always asked for.

I paint in oils, from life when I can. I am drawn to things that hold still just long enough: a tide going out, a street climbing a hill, a body at rest. Thick, textured paint is my way of touching what I look at.
